Plan Ahead for Advisors
Plan Ahead Feature
Students use Plan Ahead to build possible schedules for upcoming terms. Advisors can access a student’s Plan Ahead to view the schedules they have built as well as save plans they have created for the student. Plan Ahead allows up to three plans to be saved per quarter per user. Find Plan Ahead in Web4U on the Faculty/Advisors page under Advisor Resources.
Step-by-Step Guide for Advisors
Select “Advisor” as your role. If “Student” is an option and you select it, you will be accessing your own student records if you attended WWU.
Select "Plan Ahead."
View Plans
Select a term and then search “All Students.” If searching by name, type the entire last name and then a comma and space (LastName, ) to view a list of possible students. Select the student and click “Continue.”
You can view any plans that have been created by and for the student. This includes plans created by other advisors.
Plan Ahead allows students to have up to three plans saved per user. Plans can only be edited or deleted by the person who created them.
Create Plans
To create a plan, click on the “Create a New Plan” link.
Search for Classes
Use “Find Classes” to search for possible classes to add to the student’s plan. Search by Subject, Course Number, or in the Advanced Search, by Attribute.
Search results display basic information about the course, like course title, as well as the option to view the sections offered that term.
If you click the “Add Course” link, the course added to the plan may not have any sections being offered for the given quarter. To view whether sections for a class are offered for the term, click “View Sections.”
On this page you can view more details about the sections offered, such as Instructor, Meeting Times and Attributes.
By clicking on the title of the class, a box displays detailed information about the class, including prerequisites, fees and restrictions, among others.
Click “Add” on the far-right side of the page to add the class to a plan. After adding, the class displays as “Pending.” To go back and add more classes, click "Catalog Search Results" in the upper left corner of the screen, then click the green "Search Again" link in the upper right corner.
Save and View Plans
Once all classes have been added to the plan, click “Save Plan” and enter a Plan Name. The classes display as “Planned” in both the Calendar View and Student Summary. NOTE: Plan Ahead does not check prerequisites or restrictions for a student. Plan Ahead allows overlapping classes (which can be viewed in the Calendar View) and does not limit the number of credit hours per plan.
Classes can be removed by clicking into the "Action" drop-down menu and selecting "Delete" and then "Save Plan."
Click on “Select a Plan” towards the top of the page to return to view the plans that the student has saved and to as well as who created them. On this page you can also edit or delete plans you have saved.
