We are disappointed we cannot celebrate your accomplishments with a ceremony this summer but we hope that you join us in December for virtual commencement. You have worked hard and deserve a celebration. In the meantime, we plan to update this website with some items to help you celebrate at home both this summer and in the fall. Information about the virtual commencement will be sent to your external email account in October.
Celebrate Graduation at Home
While we are unable to celebrate commencement in-person, please use these resources to help celebrate with family and/or close friends at home.
Sign and Template Prints
You can find PDFs to print on our Celebration Prints webpage. Make cookies using our Viking helmet template or print a yard sign at your local printer.
Graduation Party Ideas
Have a graduation party via zoom or another platform with family and friends. You can google "virtual graduation party ideas" for fun ideas.
Watch and share this graduate video message from faculty and staff at your party.
Create your Graduate Slide
We will post "graduate slides" for graduating summer students who opt-in to be included on the site during the week of August 17. Student slides will include a student name, degree, honors, quote (if submitted), and photo (if submitted).
The deadline to reserve a students slide is August 12.
Share your slide with family and friends. Once published, search the slides for your friends.
Submit to Memory Walk Box
Memory Walk has been a commencement tradition since 1912. Each year, a stone representing the graduating class is laid in the sidewalk that runs parallel to the facade of Old Main, Western’s first building. Beneath each of these class stones lie time capsules. Graduates proceed to the Memory Walk where they may place their memorabilia into a box which will be buried beneath the stone bearing their class year. This quarter, students are encouraged to participate by mailing items to the Registrar's Office on campus or by submitting items digitally to our virtual Memory Walk Box.
Order your Cap and Gown
Like other quarters, you are still able to order a cap and gown, along with other graduation items. Use your regalia to take photos and if you plan to attend an in-person ceremony in the future when we are able to provide that option, you will use this regalia for the event. Order through our Alumni Association now.
