General University Requirements (GURs)
GURs apply to all students at Western. This excludes students enrolled in Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. See the Fairhaven College section of the University Catalog for requirements.
Purpose of the GURs
GURs serve as the core of a liberal arts education, designed to build foundational knowledge, critical thinking, and essential, transferable skills across various disciplines.

Graduation Honors
Graduating seniors who achieve Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude academic honors will be formally recognized on university transcripts, on their diploma, and during the commencement ceremony by wearing gold honor cords.
